She lives in an ancient shrine in modern day Tokyo.  On her birthday Kagome was dragged into the Bone Eater well by a centipede youkai seeking the Shikon no Tama that was inside Kagome’s body.  She is the reincarnated soul of Kikyo and possess all of the Miko’s powers, although she doesn’t have the skills to use them.  Kagome was the one who freed Inuyasha from the seal pinning him to the Sacred Tree.  When the Shikon no Tama was stolen from her by a crow youkai, she fired an arrow which shattered the jewel into hundreds of fragments.  Now teamed up with the brash hanyou, it is her duty to recover all the fragments, purify them, and restore the jewel to its original self.  From the first moment she saw Inuyasha, Kagome was fascinated with him.  Especially with his ears, feeling the need to toy with them when he was still sealed and asleep.  Although he often drives her insane with his macho simplicity of seeing things and situations, Kagome feels there’s a soft side to him and tries her best to befriend and soften his hard edges.  She soon discovers that what she thought was simply a deep rooted friendship to the hanyou was actually a deep affection for Inuyasha.  Later in the series she finally voices her feelings out loud mere seconds before being rescued by her beloved hanyou.
